After last years EWC effort with team HM Honda Zanardo, Blythe was on his own again back in good old USA. Fair results in 2011 resulted in no offer by any EWC team to keep him in Europe. Blythe still kept his goal to make it at the EWC and started planning an effort from the US. After the WORCS results were disappointing, he started to focus more and more on the EWC. Very ambitious he had plans to race the first two South American rounds but was not able to make this happen. Next goal was the Spanish and Portuguese rounds, but her was unable to pull it off either. A new goal was set to race the Italian round just later in the year. With assist of Donnie Whittington of World Jet, Acerbis Italy and US Acerbis distributor MX West, he was able to ship his bike by air from Denver to Milan. His mx KTM bike needed to be converted to a street legal enduro bike, which was not easy. Besides lights and other stuff added, Blythe needed to buy the bike from his sponsor KTM of Aspen to legally get insurance and race in Europe.
Ian and his dad John are now in Italy preparing for the race. The bike his been picked up from the airport in Milan with a van provided by Acerbis, assembled and tested. Next on the agenda is making it to the race site today (Monday) and starting to walk the special tests. Blythe is able to count on support from Nick Zournatzis from Team INA TV Racing at the service areas.
If everything goes well, Nick will transport Blythe’s bike the the next 3 EWC rounds.
We wish Blythe good luck!
